The RAV Friction Grade Calculator assists users in determining the maximum grade a vehicle can safety traverse, or the minimum mass required on the drives axles to safety traverse a specified grade. The calculator determines the maximum grade before a vehicle combination loses traction according to a given torque split for the drive axles.
It is important to understand that in some circumstances (particularly higher grades) other factors such as the vehicle engine power and gearbox may further limit the maximum grade for the particular vehicle.
Select from pre-defined vehicle category or "Customise" to provide specific Gross Combination Mass (GCM), drive axle load or friction values below.
Selecting "Use Grade" enables entering a target gradient and determining the minimum drive axle group load needed for the given GCM.
